Bokkraal Waterfall Hiking Trail is situated on the land of Herman Charles Bosman, Groot Marico, is one of the best-kept secrets of South Africa. The diversity of plants and birdlife is very special. Through this area runs the Marico River. The river rises in the district and is one of the major sources of the Limpopo. The Bokkraal Waterfall Trail takes full advantage of this waterway and its waterfalls and rock pools that entice the hikers to tarry a while.

Trails

14km, 8km and 3km

The trail starts near a beautiful waterfall and climbs gently for a kilometer or so through scrub grassland to a small slate quarry. The next four-kilometer section offers great views of the surrounding countryside, as well as a good chance of seeing some small game species, so keep your eyes peeled.

The trail then slowly descends to an orange sandstone cliff that marks the course of the river. The trees that line the river banks offer a welcome respite from the sun, so this is a good place for a break.

The second half of the hike follows the river back to the starting point. This section of the trail leads past numerous beautiful pools, waterfalls and cascades, all under the shade of high trees and dense bush. At one point, about two kilometers from the end, a waterfall plummets into an enticing pool that is perfect to laze in on a hot day.The Tufa waterfalls are witness to the purity of the river water and the water is tempting and the shade of the trees inviting!
